Glancing Shot

Posted by Pete Bouchard

First look at the radar this afternoon, and my heart almost skipped a beat.

Big batch of steady - and even moderate - snow was spreading across PA. No, it wasn't a surprise, we had expected this area to be hit with snow today. It's just that after 4 seasons of big snows here in New England, seeing that gave me flashbacks to previous years when the storms would sweep in from the Keystone State and hammer us with snow.

At least we have the misty watercolor memories of the way we were.

This time, it's just a glancing shot of snow. Most of us come away with nothing more than a cloudy sky - with fuzzy moonlight. Others a few flurries. But one Island may have the chance at some accumulation.

No, not that Island.

I'm talking about the one that sticks out into the Atlantic. The one southeast of the Vineyard.

With the storm regenerating just offshore, Nantucket will be close enough for some minor accumulation. It's possible that that island may even be split in two with the northern end getting a coating and the southern end getting 1-2".

Strange winter, eh?

And it's not winter we're seeing in the coming days. "Spring" resumes through Friday as the temperatures warm into the mid/upper 40s again.

The big event of the week now centers around Saturday. A sharp, bitterly cold front will slice through New England by midday, sending the temps in free-fall by afternoon. Few rainshowers may be around before they turn to snowsqualls, but the bigger concern is the possibility of a flash-freeze on Saturday as we go from low 40s in the morning to low 30s after lunch.

This cold that moves in will be short-lived, but it looks to last through Sunday and Monday. Morning temps will be a few degrees either side of zero. This could qualify as the coldest airmass of the season, and I suggest you don't take it lightly.

Here We Go Again!

I like this pattern: gorgeous weekends, unsettled gray workweeks. I'm sure those of you without a Saturday/Sunday weekend might not like it so much, but sometimes the rain on your day off is nice because you don't feel so bad napping and being lazy! Like it or hate it, it's happening again.

Goodbye Sun

Weekend is just about over & so is our stretch of nice, sunny weather. Recently, we've been timing our rainy days where they should be---Mondays & Tuesdays. No different this week. A slow moving storm has been marking time to our south the past two days but now has it all figured out---head north to New England for a few days.

So Fresh, So Clean

Outkast JR?....OK, you got me. It's on the playlist these days but that's also how you could describe that air out there today. Thanks to high pressure, we had a ton of sunshine for the entire day (and those days are looong..sunrise 5:19am...sunset 8:03) and we'll have another fantastic day tomorrow.
